A framework for creating synthetic DAS microseismic data has been developed
A framework for generating synthetic DAS microseismic data using layer cake velocity models representative of North Sea geology has been developed. Synthetics from three different models with increasing levels of geologic complexity were generated, using two full waveform modelling packages (SW4 and SPECFEM3D) to ensure consistent and accurate results at each stage. It is envisaged that this modelling procedure will be used to generate synthetics if and when the need arises in the project. There are many possible use cases, for example to: (1) support the development and testing of DAS processing algorithms, (2) test the efficacy of different array geometries in detecting and characterising events, or (3) simulating a field experiment to better understand observed processes.
